Big Coverage for Tommy Bahama with Lil’ Kev

Social media star Lil’ Kev, a laminated Tommy Bahama advertisement that bore a striking resemblance to Cleveland Cavaliers player Kevin Love, became the unofficial mascot for the Cavaliers as they played their way to a NBA Championship this season. Brought to prominence and made famous by Cavalier Richard Jefferson, Lil’ Kev took Jefferson’s snapchat by storm throughout the season, sitting shotgun in the car and relaxing with the team – he even has an official Instagram account (@officiallilkev) with 44.1k followers.

All of this made for some major, and unexpected, coverage for Tommy Bahama. Accompanying the Cleveland Cavaliers from the playoffs to the championship title, Lil’ Kev was nothing short of an A-List celebrity –  featured nationally online on GQ, ESPN, Time, Sports Illustrated, Fox8, Bleacher Report, the official Instagram of the NBA, USAToday, The Huffington Post, Yahoo, AOL, MSN and much more. Locally, Lil’ Kev was a hero in “The Land,” receiving major local coverage on, Cleveland Mag and Cleveland’s The Plain Dealer.

The Tommy Bahama store at Beachwood Place played host to an exciting surprise giveaway in May when the Cavaliers passed out signature Lil’ Kev shirts before the playoffs. 500 shirts were given away to fans in less than 20 minutes, and Orsi gifted #LilKev shirts to 50+ key national and local media that had covered Lil’ Kev.

Lil’ Kev even reached music celebrity status when famous Cleveland supporter Lil Wayne released a tribute song for the team called “Off Off Off.” The song calls out nearly all of the Cavaliers, including Lil’ Kev, and has over 2.5 million views on YouTube!

Lil’ Kev was much more than a pop icon, however. In his emotional “Who We Are” letter to the fans published on, Jefferson credits Lil’ Kev for the team’s unity. Jefferson notes in the letter, “People were sending me pictures of customized Lil’ Kev T-shirts that they’d made… It was a surprise at first, but then it made complete sense: Cavs fans wanted to see us as we really are.”

That’s when I realized that the Lil’ Kev story may have started as a joke, but it had grown into something more than just some fun thing that I was doing on an app during my down time. It showed us being ourselves but more importantly, it reflected what was true about our team.

After the Cavalier’s thrilling victory in game 7, Tommy Bahama even published a full page ad in The Cleveland Plain Dealer congratulating the team on an exciting victory! The ad reads, “Congratulations, Cleveland! We believe. #LilKev.”

Jefferson returned to the Tommy Bahama Beachwood Place retail store the day after Cleveland’s victory parade to sign autographs for fans of the team and Lil’ Kev, announcing the appearance to fans in both his Snapchat and Lil’ Kev’s Instagram. Orsi alerted local media – including Fox, ABC and NBC – to appear for interviews with Jefferson and Lil’ Kev before their Summer vacations. Sitting in front of a massive photo of Lil’ Kev, Jefferson signed autographs at the front of the store, and took photos with over 350 fans. At the end, Jefferson stepped out into the crowd to snapchat and wave to the 500+ fans that showed up to see him and Lil’ Kev.

Springing in to Spring with Amazing Editorial

Harper’s Bazaar featured Tommy Bahama women’s sportswear in their February AND March issues, while O – The Oprah Magazine included a Tommy Bahama women’s dress in their March fashion coverage. Tommy Bahama’s men’s sportswear was also featured three times throughout the March issue of Maxim, showcasing their latest pieces from the new Spring collection.

Sanrio received some love from Nylon – Hello Kitty items were included in style director’s Dani Stahl’s “Bag Check” page in the March issue. T.U.K. Footwear was included in the Nylon’s March issue too! Our newest client, mywalit, is also hosting a giveaway in the March issue of Good Housekeeping.

Flavors of Aloha: Cooking with Tommy Bahama

Tommy Bahama Restaurant and Bar in New York City recently hosted the launch party of their newly released cookbook Flavors of Aloha: Cooking with Tommy Bahama. In attendance was Famed American chef and cookbook author, Rick Rodgers, who partnered with Tommy Bahama to create the beautiful and diverse cookbook.

Rick Rodgers engaged with writers and editors as they enjoyed an evening of cocktails, appetizers and entrees all handpicked from the new book. Judging by the empty plates and glasses at the end of the night, it was clear that everyone in attendance had a wonderful time. The event was a big hit with press and received great coverage from outlets including Glamour, Examiner and Manhattan with a twist. We look forward to more great coverage as several other events are being planned at Tommy Bahama Restaurants



September is a Good Month to Dine Out


For the second year, Tommy Bahama has partnered with Share Our Strength to support the No Kid Hungry campaign which aims to end childhood hunger in America and ensure that every child gets the nourishment they need to learn and grow. Throughout the month of September, guests visiting any Tommy Bahama Restaurant or full-priced U.S. retail location, as well as can make a $5 donation to No Kid Hungry. In exchange for the donation, Tommy Bahama offers a $20 promotional award card that can be redeemed in Tommy Bahama Restaurants, full-priced U.S. retail stores and from October 1st-31st. Anyone who chooses to donate $1 at any Tommy Bahama Restaurant location will receive an orange wrist band with the island-inspired lifestyle brand’s motto “Make Life One Long Weekend.™”


Tommy Bahama guests enthusiastically embraced Dine Out for No Kid Hungry and as of mid-September they have exceeded their goal in total funds raised.  The press has also been supportive with more than a dozen editorial hits from Food and Beverage Magazine to The Desert Sun, Arizona Foothills, Naples News and more!  It’s always nice to see everyone come together for such a worthy cause.

A Win for the SM Pier Paddleboard Race & Ocean Festival Presented by Tommy Bahama

09 - Santa Monica Pier Paddleboard Race and Ocean Festival Presented by Tommy BahamaProfessional big wave surfer Jamie Mitchell of Costa Mesa, California took first place in the physically demanding 5.5-mile elite paddle race on Saturday, June 7 for the 5th annual Santa Monica Pier Paddleboard Race & Ocean Festival Presented by Tommy Bahama. Hundreds of the top stand up paddleboard racers in the world and thousands of spectators gathered at the historic Santa Monica Pier for this action-packed event. The event also benefited Heal the Bay, an environmental nonprofit dedicated to making Southern California coastal waters and watersheds clean.

Throughout the day, spectators enjoyed a fun beach vibe that featured thrilling race competitions, live music, hula dancers, a surf history pop-up museum, and renowned artist Wade Koniakowsky who was live custom painting a surfboard that will be part of an ultimate surf-inspired sweepstakes – Art of Surf.  The Tommy Bahama lounge provided a place to relax and cool off with a drink.

A Kick-Off to Summer

Beaches across the country will be the playground for water recreation, volleyball and relaxing for anyone looking for a little escape. Along the shores of Lake Michigan in Chicago, Tommy Bahama has partnered with the Chicago Park District to create a fun and activity rich environment.

As the “Official Sponsor of Summer,” Tommy Bahama brings its relaxed, “Make Life One Long Weekend™” philosophy to the beaches of Chicago. Tommy Bahama’s generous donation to the Chicago Park District includes: help to fund the operation of the city’s 27 beaches including volleyball courts, uniforms for the more than 400 beach lifeguards, 25 scholarships to the Junior lifeguard program, and more.

It’s a great partnership that brings a lot of attention to the city and what it has to offer for residents and tourists.
